Through a strategic alliance with Laboratory Corporation of America (a $3 billion
leading diagnostic company), Summit Health is able to offer over 500 diagnostic tests on blood samples. Frequently requested tests are described below.
The Comprehensive Health Profile includes:
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel -- 13 individual tests to help detect diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, bone and muscle disease, and more. Tests include Albumin, Alkaline Phosphates, ALT (SGPT), AST, Bicarbonate (CO2), Total Bilirubin, Calcium, Chloride, Creatinine, Glucose, Potassium, Total Protein, Sodium, and Urea Nitrogen (BUN).
- Complete Blood Count -- Includes 9 individual tests to help detect anemia, leukemias, bleeding abnormalities, infection, and more. Tests include Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Red Blood Cells, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, White Blood Cells
and Platelet Count.
- Thyroid: Tests for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) to determine if the Thyroid is abnormal.
- Cholesterol Screening (Lipid Profile) -- Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, and Cholesterol/HDL ratio.
- Blood Pressure & Pulse Analysis -- Measures Blood Pressure Hypo/Hypertension and Pulse Rate.
Heart Profile
The Heart Profile program includes the following tests:
- Cholesterol (Lipid Profile) Screening -- Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, and Cholesterol/HDL ratio.
- Diabetes Screening -- This test includes Glucose (glucose levels at the time of testing) and hemoglobin A1C (average glucose levels over time). The results of this panel help to screen for Diabetes.
- Blood Pressure & Pulse Analysis -- Measures Blood Pressure for Hypo/Hypertension and Pulse Rate.
Homocysteine is a new blood test to determine levels of homocysteine (an amino acid). Recent studies have shown a relationship between high homocysteine and heart disease and stroke. Amino acid may damage artery walls and enhance the blood’s ability to clot.
This test may be particularly useful for those individuals with a personal or family history of cardiovascular disease, but in whom other risk factors (smoking, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure) do not exist.
Protein
C-Reactive protein is a test that measures the concentration of a protein in serum that indicates acute inflammation. Elevated levels of the protein in women increase their heart
attack risk as much as seven times. Men with high levels of C-reactive protein, may have three times the risk of heart attack and double the risk of stroke.
The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test is a simple, reproducible, and accurate blood test. It is used to detect a protein (the prostate specific antigen) that is released from the prostate gland into the blood. Most importantly, the level of the PSA is usually higher in people with prostate cancer than in people without the cancer. The PSA, therefore, is valuable as a screening test for prostate cancer.
Comprehensive Cholesterol Screening Panel includes Total Cholesterol, HDL (Good), LDL (Bad), Triglycerides, and Cholesterol/HDL Ratio.
This test includes Glucose (glucose levels at the time of testing) and hemoglobin A1C (average glucose levels over time). Diabetes screening tests can help determine what type of diabetes you have. Diabetes screening tests can also determine if you are likely to develop this disease in the future.
This test determines Vitamin B12, folate, calcium, and iron levels in the blood. The nutrition and vitamin panel provides information on which metabolic functions of the body are efficient and which need more attention.
Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) is the bacteria responsible for most ulcers and many cases of stomach inflammation ( chronic gastritis ). H. pylori infection is thought to be present in about half the people in the world. For many people, H. pylori infection causes no signs or symptoms and doesn't lead to any complications. But for others, H. pylori can lead to serious complications, such as ulcers and stomach cancer.
Analysis of a blood sample may reveal signs of an H. pylori infection.
This test determines an individual’s Blood Group and Rhesus Antigen Status (Rh factor).
Abnormal thyroid may exhibit the following common symptoms: unexplained weight gain or loss, unexplained fatigue, hair loss, sweating, insomnia or constipation. This test measures the TSC (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) in the blood.
The test includes 9 individual tests to help detect anemia, leukemias, bleeding abnormalities, infection, and more. Tests include Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Red Blood Cells, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, White Blood Cells and Platelet Count.
This Panel can detect disorders of the liver, gallbladder and the biliary tract. Certain medications can damage the liver. Tests include Albumin, Alkaline Phosphatase, Bilirubin, Protein, SGPT, and SGOT.
This test can detect disorders of the Kidney. Tests include Albumin, Calcium, Carbon Dioxide, Chloride, Creatinine, Glucose, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, and Urea Nitrogen Phosphorus, (BUN).
Summit Health offers many additional diagnostic tests as part of our health screening programs.
