Screening takes approximately 20 minutes for each participant. Participants receive a counseling brochure with their results at the fitness assessment. A Summit Health fitness professional reviews the results with each participant.
The Three-Minute Step Test is commonly used to measure cardiovascular endurance. Aerobic capacity reflects the functional capabilities of the heart, blood vessels, blood, and lungs. A prediction of aerobic capacity is calculated by measuring participants’ one-minute recovery heart rate. The quicker the heart recovers, the more fit the individual. Participants’ results will be compared to national results to determine their cardiovascular endurance compared to the general population.
The Sit and Reach Test measures participants’ flexibility of hamstrings, lower back, and shoulders. This test is administered using a Sit and Reach Box. Participants sit in front of the box and reach forward as far as possible. Their results are compared against age and gender norms.
Muscular strength is measured using a handgrip dynamometer. The strength of both the left and right hands is measured (in kilograms) and the combined score is recorded. Participants’ results are compared to age and gender norms.
The Push-Up Test is easy and quick. It measures muscular endurance. The total number of push-ups completed consecutively is counted and recorded. Participants’ results are compared to age and gender norms.
*Note: A Sit-Up Test may be substituted in place of a Push-Up Test at the client’s request.
